Radici project promises polyamides from renewable raw materials

04/10/2021

Polymers group Radici has said it is able to demonstrate the feasibility of industrial-scale production of polyamides from bio adipic acid. In its work on this, it has obtained the bio adipic acid from renewable raw materials, including waste oil and by-products of the oil industry.

Potential applications include textiles and fashion, Radici said.

It began working on this project in 2018 with €1.7 million of the funding coming from the region of Piedmont in northern Italy (Piedmont is not Radici’s home region). The polymers group invested €6.2 million of its own money in the project.

It said its customers, especially in fashion and textiles, are now “very sensitive to the environmental impact of products”. It said these customers are requesting the development of new materials that can also help them meet their sustainability goals.
