Nylon central to circular ski suit

The entire suit is made from polyamide (nylon), which could be converted into polymers for making ski boot components and bindings, or used in the automotive and furnishing industries.
The fabric is made from Radici’s Renycle, a yarn obtained from mechanically recycled polyamide. The padding and accessories, such as zips, Velcro, buttons and thread, are also made of polyamide.
Angelo Radici, president of RadiciGroup, said: “This ski suit is proof that textiles and apparel can be made sustainable without compromising on comfort, design, looks or performance. I will never get tired of repeating that collaboration among the firms along the production chain is crucial to manufacturing goods with an ecodesign approach, considering their end-of-life recyclability and potentially giving them unlimited durability.”
Even though the yarn was obtained from recycled scraps and rejects, the resulting fabric has a blue matte colour, a soft touch, and a clean line, said the companies. Hexagonal inserts made of black polyamide fabric on both the jacket and trousers are designed to reinforce the external fabric layer and increase abrasion, tear and low temperature resistance.
The Italian companies said the proximity to each other in Bergamo was key to their success.
