New lactam wastewater recovery plant at Radici
25/02/2019
The facility specialises in polyamide 6 polymerisation and BCF yarn production, the core business of the Radici Group’s Performance Yarn division. The recovery plant was installed there in 2018.
It recovers the wastewater from the polymerisation process that has a caprolactam concentration of 8-12%. It then uses a falling film and mechanical vapour recompression technologies to process the water in order to raise the caprolactam concentration in the output up to 80%. This makes the recovered caprolactam suitable for reuse in continuous cycle polymer production.
The new plant recently underwent a test run. It has proven effective in achieving a reduction in the quantity of natural gas used for steam production. The new system requires around 80% less steam than the previous system used, according to Radici. As a result, the overall production plant’s consumption of natural gas has dropped by 35-40%.
