Expansion plans for MAS Holdings

Apparel and textile manufacturing group MAS Holdings has announced ambitious expansion plans.

Based in Sri Lanka, the group has 41 apparel manufacturing facilities across the globe. It said an expansion drive across that network had already resulted in an increase in its global production capacity of 15% in the last year and a rise of more than 18,000 people in its global workforce. In total, the group employs more than 115,000 people.

It will now push for further expansion, which will include doubling its capacity in Indonesia and in India between now and 2024.

MAS said it also hopes to ramp up its ability to produce sports and performance apparel in Jordan and export it from there duty free to the US and the European Union. It recently opened a third manufacturing facility in Jordan.

Other parts of the world where MAS wants to make more textiles and apparel include Bangladesh, Vietnam and Kenya. Its planned expansion also covers many of its operations in Sri Lanka.

“This expansion further strengthens our capability to manufacture multiple products across a number of locations,” said MAS Holdings chief executive, Suren Fernando. He explained that this gives the group “greater organisational agility and responsiveness, especially in times of crisis”.
