Confidence at Radici that bio-content in polyester yarns will go higher

Yarn developer Radici Group used the Techtextil 2022 event in Frankfurt to showcase a range of new products. These included Renycle, a yarn obtained from recycled nylon; Repetable, a polyester yarn from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles; and Biofeel, a range of polyamide and polyester yarns partly made from bio-based content.

Presenting the products at an event in Frankfurt, sales and marketing manager of the apparel and technical business line, Marco De Silvestri (pictured), explained that Biofeel polyester yarns are made from 30% non-food bio-materials and 70% from fossil fuels.

“This is the best you can get,” he said. “You need PTA (purified terephthalic acid) to make polyester and there is no PTA from bio-origin available. But the industry is working on this and it will come up with new solutions.”

He went on to say that that bio-content of Biofeel polyamide yarns is greater, with a share of 65%.
