Revamp for Berghaus repair service

Outdoor brand Berghaus has announced an update to the free repairs service it has offered since the company launched 56 years ago.

Now called ‘Repairhaus’, the repairs service is led by a team at brand headquarters in the north-east of England. No matter how old or worn a Berghaus item is, the team attempts to carry out a repair.

This service is available to buyers of the brand’s clothing, footwear, packs and accessories. And although customers have be pay postage costs, the repair is on the house.

If the item is unrepairable and has come to the end of its life, consumers are given two options: a like-for-like replacement for any product still covered by guarantee, or the choice to upcycle the unrepairable items and receive a 30% discount on a new product.

The company is also working with a Lake District-based organisation called Dirtbags Climbing, which repurposes old items into new products.

Data from Berghaus’s own research shows that, on average, repairing rather than buying a new like-for-like product generates 50% fewer carbon emissions.

Brand director, Charlie Pym, said: “Berghaus products are built to last, but of course, one of the risks of outdoor adventure is your kit. As well as years of general wear and tear, products can get damaged in various ways. We’ve always offered the repair service and our in-house team has a treasure trove of stories about how they’ve helped keep much loved Berghaus kit out there in action.”
