EU funding for circular sportswear project

An initiative to make 100% bio-based performance sportswear, BioAce, is to receive funding from the European Commission as part of a programme called the S4 Fashion project.

BioAce is a joint project between Germany-based sustainable materials consultancy Circuvate and clothing manufacturer The Good Factory. It will receive funding of €10,000.

Specifically, the project aims to explore the use of a 100% bio-based polyamide for use. The polyamide, PA 10,10, comes from castor beans, a renewable resource that fabric developers have been using for more than a decade.

The project partners have said that using bio-based polyamides could reduce the carbon footprint of sports clothing by 55% compared to products made using petroleum-based fibres.
BioAce intends to reduce that further by exploring the development of recycled bio-based yarns, initially from factory cutting waste.
