Lenzing doubles down on fibre recycling
20/10/2022
The initiative is led by Belgian textiles and plastics research centre Centexbel, supported by EU funding via the Horizon Europe innovation platform. CISUTAC partners will engage in three pilot schemes over the period: repair and disassembly; sorting; and circular design, with an emphasis on fibre-to-fibre recycling. The focus will be on cotton/cellulose and polyester fibres and their uses in activewear, workwear and fashion.
Industry collaborators include Euratex, Decathlon, Södra, PVH, Inditex and Circular Systems. For its part, Lenzing will work to develop processes for recycling cellulose fibre in line with its corporate strategy, the producer said.
“Effective textile recycling is one of the most important and complex core issues facing the textile industry,” commented head of circularity initiatives at Lenzing, Sonja Zak. “By pooling expertise and working with partners along the value chain, we can accelerate this vital process and forge ahead with finding solutions.”
