Tencel team celebrates ‘first’ carbon-zero lyocell sale

Austrian producer Lenzing has announced the “first” sale of its carbon-zero Tencel branded lyocell fibre, a wood-based manmade cellulosic launched in September 2020.
The fibre was developed in line with CarbonNeutral Protocol guidelines, making it certified CarbonNeutral as per third-party calculations of emissions associated with its production, manufacturing and distribution, plus steps taken by the group to offset them.
“Our ultimate goal is to offer the carbon neutral benefit across our entire selection of Tencel fibres and the textile supply chain,” chief commercial officer Robert van de Kerkhof said at the time of the launch.
Commenting on the news of the sale, the fibre developer said that it aims to continue its “journey to further reduce carbon impacts within the textile value chain” both this year and in the future.
Lenzing’s lyocell manufacturing plant in Thailand, which it describes as the largest of its kind anywhere in the world, became operational last March.
