Demand for Lenzing’s filament yarn is on the up

Yarn manufacturing group Lenzing has said it is on track to increase production capacity of its Tencel Luxe product this year. It said production was increasing to cater for growing demand.

Tencel Luxe is the brand under which Lenzing offers its lyocell filament yarn, which it presents as a sustainably made and biodegradable option for fabric and finished-garment producers. The group said it was confident the yarn would hold increasingly strong appeal for high-end fashion companies as they “source green solutions to reshape their value chains”.

Its vice-president for the noble fibres business unit, Vineet Singhal, said there was “a significant shift towards sustainability” in the luxury and premium apparel industry, largely driven by younger-generation consumers.

He added: “As a result of this rising consumer demand, the Tencel Luxe brand is looking to expand its footprint in activewear, intimate apparel, denim and other fashion segments.”

Lenzing said it had experienced strong growth in demand for Tencel Luxe in 2021 and that this momentum had continued in 2022.

The increase in production Lenzing has announced will give it the capacity to produce “several hundred tonnes” of Tencel Luxe per year.
