Euratex calls on governments to address worker shortage
10/04/2024
European textiles and clothing association Euratex has teamed up with tanners body Cotance and the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) to address skills shortages in the sectors.
The SkillBridge project, supported by the European Commission, will help to develop action plans with regional authorities, industry and education providers, they said.
The project will also support to SMEs to develop reskilling or upskilling initiatives.
The project complements the METASkills4TCLF and AEQUALIS4TCLF projects, launched earlier this year. They all seek to address the shortage of qualified labour.
Dirk Vantyghem, EURATEX director general, said: “Addressing the skills gap, and attracting young people with the right set of skills, is essential to strengthen the European textiles industry. We are grateful to the European Commission for the support, and want to reach out especially to the regional authorities to work together and design a skills strategy that is effective for its local industry.”
Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, COTANCE secretary general, added: "Working closely with partners across Europe, we are united in our mission to drive the EU leather, textiles, clothing and footwear sectors towards a greener, more resilient and innovative future."
