New York court finds against adidas in stripes row
Sports group adidas has lost a legal battle with fashion brand Thom Browne. It argued that Thom Brown’s use of stripes infringed its three-stripe trademark. The case came to court in New York on January 3.
On January 12, a jury decided that there was no infringement of adidas’s intellectual property.
Thom Browne has used stripes on shoes and apparel, but it argued that the companies work in different markets and serve different customers at different price points. It said stripes were a common design element for many footwear and clothing companies.
