Wool and weave-density deliver ‘revolutionary’ windbreaker for yacht team
Technical performance is the main focus of a new merino wool-based team kit range that The Woolmark Company has worked on with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli racing team. They unveiled the kit at an event in Milan on January 16.
The team will use the collection, which includes wool-rich T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, leggings, a cycling suit, a waterproof jacket and “a revolutionary ultralight windbreaker” to train for and compete in the challengers’ competition for the thirty-seventh America’s Cup event. The final event will take place in Barcelona in 2024.
Commenting on the ultralight windbreaker that is part of the collection, The Woolmark Company said it was made from 55% merino wool of just 60 grammes per square-metre. It said the jacket had a high level of breathability, thanks to the wool, but was wind-proof thanks to the density of the weave.
The cycling suit is also in merino wool-rich fabric, with an interlock design to provide enhanced temperature regulation and moisture management.
