Vaude voices support for PFAS restrictions

Outdoor brand Vaude has said it supports planned restrictions on the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Europe.

The Germany-based company said it had been working for years already, of its own volition, to eliminate PFAS from its products. Since 2021, all the materials going into its clothing, backpacks and shoes have been completely PFAS-free.

Germany is one of a number of countries arguing for restricting use of all PFAS in the European Union by 2025.

Commenting on this, the chief executive of Vaude, Antje von Dewitz, said: “We are glad that PFAS are finally to be restricted by law and that this issue has now also reached the general public. It affects each and every one of us, no matter where we live in the world.”

She said legal regulations will be important “in making the [textile and apparel] industry reconsider its position” and in advancing the development of PFAS-free alternatives.
