Claros Technologies, a company based in Minneapolis, USA, has finalised a new funding round led by Ecosystem Integrity Fund and American Century Investments and bringing in $22 million. Its CEO and co-founder Michelle Bellanca worked for more than two decades at 3M.

The new resources will enable the company to scale up R&D into its ClarosTech process that destroys PFAS in wastewater using a UV-photochemical method. It is based on initial technical research at the University of Minnesota. The company also makes biobased textile additives that offer antiviral, antibacterial and anti-odour properties as well as UV-protection.

Tested by third-party laboratories, ClarosTech has been found to achieve a 99.99% destruction and defluorination of all types of PFAS including long, short and ultra-short chain PFAS, the company says.
