Old tyres give life to cycle bag collection

A German brand has created a bag collection from BASF’s Ultramid Ccycled, made from pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires.

Tire pyrolysis is a form of chemical recycling where ground tire waste undergoes thermochemical decomposition at high temperatures in an inert oxygen-free atmosphere to yield recovered Carbon Black (rCB), recovered steel, pyrolytic oil and pyrolytic gas.

This oil replaces 100% of the fossil resources otherwise needed for the material.

The Pendik bicycle bag (pictured) from the Pinqponq brand from German company Baesiq is aimed at urban cyclists.

Holger Fabianski, product manager at Baesiq, said: “We are very pleased to add the new highly functional product to our portfolio and, thanks to the cooperation with BASF, to be the first brand to produce functional bike bags from the sustainable polyamide. Our bike bags are a symbol of our vision to combine innovation and responsibility to create a sustainable future together.”
