Viscose production to increase at Lenzing plant in Indonesia

Wood-based fibres group Lenzing has said it will increase production in Asia of its Ecovero viscose product and of its Veocel non-woven.

An expansion project at Lenzing’s Purwakarta site in Indonesia will allow it increase production of Ecovero there to more than 300,000 tonnes per year.

Executive vice-president for textiles at the group, Florian Heubrandner, said brands and retailers were continuing “to reconfigure their manufacturing networks” and that all components in the supply chain, from spinners, weavers and knitters to garment makers and sourcing offices, were now present in the Asia-Pacific region.

He added: “As demand for responsible viscose continues to rise in the region, increased production at the Purwakarta site will not only allow us to work more closely with our existing customers but also allow us to introduce Ecovero to new prospects who are keen to switch from generic viscose to responsible viscose.”
