Its uppers are knit from Ananas Anam’s Piñayarn in a blend consisting of 70% Tencel lyocell and 30% Anam PALF, a traceable fibre made from waste pineapple leaves using the manufacturer’s own technology.
Anam PALF fibres importantly undergo no bleaching, pulping or dyeing, in favour of enzymatic biopurification and mechanical processing. Piñayarn launched in November 2022, followed by Anam PALF in July.
Product development manager Melissa Braithwaite described the inspiration behind Piñayarn as firmly rooted in the need to provide the industry with an alternative to more conventional cotton and polyester.
“We have an abundance of available raw material within our business,” Ms Braithwaite added, “and broadening our product offering means we can valorise more waste.”
Global business development manager at Tencel-maker Lenzing, Nicole Schram, called the collaboration “a perfect example” of its commitment to sharing its materials knowledge and expertise to help partners improve their environmental and social credentials.
