Adidas revamps Supernova with Dreamstrike+ ‘super-foam’

Athletic brand adidas has debuted a new “super-foam” for shoe midsoles called Dreamstrike+ with the relaunch of its Supernova footwear franchise.

The foam’s construction was inspired by Lightstrike Pro, the midsole material the company developed for its Adizero running shoe line.

Adidas described the foam has been distributed differently across three silhouettes. In the Supernova Stride, it is placed in the forefront region with an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) compound, whereas it constitutes the Supernova Rise and Supernova Solution trainers' entire midsole sections.

Drawing from adidas-led research into 1,300 female runners’ comfort in motion, the use of Dreamstrike+ is intended to work in tandem with adidas’ own Support Rod System. Its “slightly” different applications between the Supernova Solution and Supernova Rise, for example, demonstrate the varying degrees of impact achievable through the system’s typical construction: two middle rods splinted together.

Gender-specific lasts serve to further boost comfort and efficiency, the business added.

“We are very excited to introduce a totally new chapter of the Supernova franchise: our everyday running shoes,” commented adidas' category director for running footwear, JT Newcomb. “The driving motivation behind revamping the Supernova was to enable more people to run, more of the time."

Pairs of the new Supernova Rise model will be made available December 1, followed by the Supernova Solution and Supernova Stride on February 22.
