Lunar New Year brings China breakthrough for Canopy
Sports apparel brand Engine Bird is one of three Chinese clothing companies to have launched the new Lunar New Year by becoming partners of forest-focused campaign group Canopy.
As part of the brands’ pledge to Canopy, they have committed to keeping “climate- and biodiversity-critical forests out of their viscose and paper packaging supply chains”. They will prioritise circular, lower-impact, next-generation alternative fibres instead, Canopy said.
This cluster of new partners, which also includes multi-brand fashion company Ellassay Group and sock company Happywool, is the first group of apparel companies with their headquarters in China to team up with Canopy in this way.
The campaign group has claimed that sourcing manmade cellulosic fibre-based fabrics leads to the loss of more than 3.4 billion trees per year.
There are now 555 brands partnering with Canopy’s initiative for clothing.
