AAG swaps in Oeko-Tex-approved, water-based inks

Australia-based manufacturer Active Apparel Group (AAG) has moved to introduce water-based printing inks approved to Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1 Standard in its factories.

The company, headquartered in Brisbane, is known for its swim and sportswear production.

It typically screen-prints around 60,000 garments a month on average, followed by 25,000 metres of digitally printed fabric. All the group’s digital printers now rely on non-toxic, water-based inks and they are also used in much of its screen printing. Employee training in this more specialised area remains ongoing, AAG said.

Chief executive, Daniel Hawker, commented: “Reducing toxic chemicals from the manufacturing process is the right things to do for our employees, for people living close to our manufacturing facilities and for anyone buying the apparel that we manufacture.

“Moving away from toxins also allows us to keep ahead of increasingly stringent environmental regulations, allowing our customers to stay profitable in a quickly changing global marketplace.”
