Dry-Tex invests in power, hot steam alternatives
The founder of performance materials developer Dry-Tex, Andy Dong, has shared with sportstextiles that a new molten salt energy storage project is expected to generate 24-hour-access to green electricity and steam for dyeing, potentially reducing its carbon emissions by as much as 39 million kilograms annually.
Dry-Tex will also transition to 100% green power, starting this year, he told us.
Mr Dong said Dry-Tex's neighbours on the Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, industrial park which houses its headquarters, have been working on the technology for several years.
His own company is a supporter, having already pledged $30 million in total investment. It has also introduced the firm’s researchers to one of its partner steam plants, Mr Dong stated.
The technology will produce as much as 50,000 kilograms of hot steam per hour, meaning it will require around 56 million kilograms less coal per year. It works by converting green electricity into heat energy and storing it in high-temperature molten salt, Dry-Tex explained.
Look out for our Dialogue with Mr Dong in issue three of WSA, available early summer.
