Vietnam expansion up next for Dry-Tex

Founder of performance fabric developer and laminates specialist Dry-Tex, Andy Dong, has shared how his company next plans to extend production to northern Vietnam, but keep research and development in Shaoxing, China.

Mr Dong told sportstextiles that the manufacturer felt the location could offer “a very good chance to expand”, suggesting its initial weaving, dyeing and lamination capacity could reach between 200,000 square-metres per day. If all goes according to plan, he expects to install up to 500 air- and water-jet looms.

The situation of the Vietnamese factory will afford the business good logistical links to its Chinese headquarters via road transportation, he says. The goal is to improve its order fulfilment service, especially to customers local to China, where the outdoor market continues to grow.

Dry-Tex won’t have too many outdoor fabric-producing competitors in this part of Vietnam, the senior executive adds, apart from several Taiwanese-owned facilities.

The company opened the doors to its newest Chinese research, development and yarn testing centre two years ago. Right now, warp-knit treacle fabrics for outdoor applications are its primary focus, Mr Dong shares. His team also visited Singaporean firm NTX, the developer of “waterless” colouration technology Cooltrans, only a couple of weeks ago.

Dry-Tex will exhibit at Performance Days in Munich (October 4-5), A+A in Düsseldorf (October 24-27 December) and the Portland edition of Functional Fabric Fair (November 1-2).
