Adidas signs up as NTX progresses ‘waterless’ colouration

14/02/2022

Textile technology firm NTX, based in Singapore, has announced that sports brand adidas has placed one of the first major orders for its Cooltrans “waterless” colouration technology, with a view to integrating it into its autumn-winter 2022 collections.

NTX described this latest innovation as able to deliver precise colouration of almost all fabrics, without heat and with up to a 90% reduction in water use and a 40% decrease in the levels of dyestuffs used. Functional performance, hand-feel and colour fastness are all maintained, it added, with the breakthrough coming about through an unspecified combination of “innovations in chemistry and machinery".

Co-founder and chairman of NTX, Kalvin Chong, explained: “The really exciting thing is the cost-competitive aspect of implementing Cooltrans into the value chain for our brand partners. The savings associated with lower energy requirements and water usage allow us to bring this game-changing innovation to eco-conscious consumers around the globe, without impacting the manufacturing costs of the final product.”

Now that Cooltrans is production-ready, capacity will be further scaled at existing sites in both China and Cambodia (where it has been online since December 2020 and November 2021, respectively), with new facilities also planned for Indonesia and Vietnam later this year.

The company further stated that the technology is compliant with the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (ZDHC MRSL).
