Adidas' new-season shoes use 50% ocean plastic yarn
Adidas Originals, working with Parley for the Oceans – which facilitates the upcycling of ocean plastic - has updated several of its shoe styles with the recycled yarn.

Each sneaker style in the spring/summer 2022 collection has been made with a yarn that contains at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic. The other 50% of the yarn is recycled polyester.

Headlining the collection are two updated interpretations of the Nizza silhouette: the Nizza Parley Hi and Nizza Parley Lo. Using a more efficient approach to construction, both pairs are composed of wrapped webbing which is assembled layer by layer to minimise waste in the production process.

The rest of the collection has new takes on the Superstar, Nizza Hi, Stan Smith, ZX 8000, Forum Mid, Forum Low, and NMD_R1, as well as two women’s exclusives: the Forum Bold W and Nizza Platform W.

Adidas has also launched a new range for the outdoor sector with singer and producer Pharrell Williams, one of the early investors in recycled yarns such as Bionic Yarn.

The NMD S1 RYAT is a hiking-inspired boot constructed from a mix of suede and leather overlays, while a rubberised TPU mudguard and toecap add to the shoe’s sense of utility.
