Singer invests in Bionic Yarn

Grammy award-winning hip hop star Pharrell Williams has bought into Bionic Yarn, a textile company based in New York dedicated to developing environmentally sustainable fabrics from plastic bottles.

The company’s product starts with a yarn spun from recycled plastic in helix formation, with two surface filament layers that run in opposite directions, making it suitable for making durable fabric.

Its two products are Bionic Apex—suitable for use in performance outerwear, outdoor boots and backpacks because of its high-tensile strength and high levels of abrasion resistance—and Bionic Natural, which, the company claims, can enhance the strength of cotton fabrics by as much as 600%.

Pharrell Willliams is reported to be keen on using his public profile to promote the company.
