Rorica launches waterless dyeing technology

Taiwan based Rorica made the trip to Le Bourget to showcase its new supercritical fluid dyeing process at Texworld this week. The waterless process uses carbon dioxide (scCO2), pressurised to an intermediate state between liquid and gas, this is said to fully dissolve dyes and penetrate fibres, in both textiles and leather. As opposed to other similar scCO2-based solutions, Rorica says its device, made by one of its divisions, IYU group, can be used to dye all types of fabrics, not only polyester, but also cotton and manmade cellulosics. “In addition, it leads to significant energy savings by eliminating the drying phase of traditional wet processes,” said Charlene Hsieh, company CEO. The process also eliminates wastewater discharge.

Rorica has installed the dyeing machines in two of its facilities, and is planning a third one. The technology is now ready for commercialisation.

Compared to traditional wet processes, Rorica’s technology is faster, taking 3 to 4 hours, doesn’t require the usual chemical auxiliaries, and 95% of the CO2 is recovered to be used again.
