X-Pac using new regen ocean nylon in pack fabrics

Functional materials developer X-Pac, a specialist in sailcloth-inspired performance fabrics for packs, will launch four-layer laminate VX21 at Performance Days in Munich on October 4.

The business, owned by Dimension-Polyant in Germany and the US, has collaborated with fibre manufacturer Hyosung to make an eco-friendlier version of its original VX21.

Carrying the CleenTec seal, the updated face fabric contains Hyosung's new 100% post-consumer recycled regen ocean nylon, produced from waste fishing nets. Both its taffeta backing and X-Ply fibre reinforcement technology are similarly made from 100% recycled post-consumer PET plastic bottles from the US.

On why it opted for the new nylon, technical fabrics lead at Dimension-Polyant US, Taylor North, said: “We have been waiting for just the right 100% recycled material that meets our durability standards and sustainability story [for] the next phase of our best-selling VX21 laminate.”

Other innovations on show at the fair include mono-polymer line X-Pac RX, manufactured with 100% post-consumer recycled face fabric and X-Ply reinforcement. The laminate, also CleenTec-approved, has been treated with a PFAS-free durable water repellent finish.
