Signs of improvement for Chinese exports in September

Figures released by China’s general administration of customs in October suggest that national textile and apparel exports reached $223 billion in the first nine months, representing a decline of 9.5% year on year.

Year-on-year textile exports saw a 10.3% drop-off to around $102 billion, whereas clothing exports totalled $121 billion, a reduction of 8.8% versus the year previous.

This trend towards decline narrowed in September, however. Textile and apparel exports were valued at $26 billion for the month, down 4.8% on 2022. Exports of each brought in $11.6 billion (-2.4%) and $14.56 billion (-6.6%), respectively.
