Remote island to host Norrøna ‘adventure centre’

Outdoor brand Norrøna has unveiled a plan to build a new “destination for outdoor adventures” in the north of Norway.

It has chosen a site on Senja, an island off the coast of northern Norway, as the location for facility, which will have guest rooms, a restaurant, a sauna and a conservatory for lovers of the outdoors to enjoy.

“We want to show the world how wonderful the natural landscape and the people here are, and give guests experiences they cannot get anywhere else,” Norrøna said.

It is working with Copenhagen-based architecture practice Dorthe Mandrup on the design, which features plans for 24 individual cabins at a small village called Bøvær, in the north-west corner of the island. The cabins will be connected by a stone roof that will blend in with the surrounding landscape.
Norrøna said it aimed to complete the project in 2026 and added that it would create between 10 and 20 jobs in the area.

The brand said Senja was one of its favourite places in the world, describing it as “an incredible place for ski-touring and mountain-biking”. Senja is the inspiration for an existing Norrøna trail-running collection.
