Solidarity programme helps Olympic athletes compete on an equal footing

More than 500 athletes at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 have benefited from a joint initiative between the International Olympic Committee and the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI).

Under the initiative, brands that are WFSGI member companies have supplied Olympic-standard kit to athletes whose national Olympic committees have lower resources.

First introduced at Rio 2016, the aims of the partnership are to foster Olympic solidarity and to make sure all athletes can compete on an equal footing.

Brands supporting the programme at Paris 2024 are adidas, Arena, ASICS, Decathlon, Descente, MAKO, Mizuno, New Balance, NIKE, Orbea, Pentland Brands, PUMA, Under Armour and Yonex.

WFSGI chief executive, Emma Zwiebler, thanked the brands for supporting the initiative  and said: “Wearing the best apparel and footwear on competition day is a crucial part of being mentally and physically prepared to compete. Every athlete deserves to take part in possibly the biggest event of their careers without having to worry about their uniform and how it may affect their performance.”
