Hitex Textile moves away from recycled PET

17/09/2024

Taiwanese textiles manufacturer Hitex will be focusing on monomaterials and mechanical stretch at the Tapei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS) on October 15-17 in a bid to move away from recycled PET and to offer solutions at the garment’s end of life.

The company said: “As current technology is unable to separate fabric with more than two fibre types or recycle fabric with more than 5% elastane, this makes it difficult and expensive to process reverse logistics of textile products with mixed fabric types.

“Our mechanical stretch series removes the elastic fibre but keeps the stretch performance via textured yarns’ properties and weaving texture.”

It is also moving away from recycled PET – which it said has boosted demand for PET bottles – and said it is instead focusing on textile-to-textile recycling, along with polyester alternatives from food waste and ocean waste.

The company has been certified by GRS, Bluesign and Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
