A step forward on DPP for Bergans

Outdoor brand Bergans of Norway is to use labelling technology from Trimco Group to equip some of its products with digital product passports (DPPs).

Products across Bergans’ product range for spring-summer 2025 will have unique QR codes that encapsulate DPP information, captured using Trimco’s upstream traceability platform, ProductDNA.

Trimco said it was already supplying Bergans with solutions for “many aspects of the DPP puzzle” through product labels, advisory services on sustainability and traceability information through Product DNA. It said that using this existing partnership was the best way for the Norwegian outdoor brand to “start tackling the DPP journey”.

Pilot projects that the companies have worked on together resulted in Bergans being able to offer a subscription model for children’s coveralls and a programme for offering repairs to products in its Rabot collection.

Sustainability and compliance director at Trimco, Camilla Mjelde, said she admired the Bergans approach. She explained: “Waiting for all data to be gathered and perfect, when not knowing exactly what data will be required for DPP compliance, would only delay the process. I admire the team at Bergans for their proactive approach. They did not rush into their DPP journey, but they did not want to wait too long either, and I think that’s a valuable lesson for the industry.”
