Nomination for Pure Loop’s recycling machinery
19/11/2024
Project Re:Claim aims to recycle post-industrial textile waste such as contract textiles used by hospitals and hotels (bed and table linens), workwear and school uniforms, and promotional banners (e.g. printed sports banners). The feedstock, coming from controlled material streams, is expected to have minimal levels of impurities.
The facility, installed on a Salvation Army processing centre in Kettering, UK, operates a commercial scale version of a combined shredder-extruder developed by Pure Loop, a division of Austrian group Erema. Plan B is a workwear manufacturer based in Plymouth, UK.
In its first year, the facility intends to recycle 2,500 tonnes of polyester. Volumes could be doubled in the following year.
The award ceremony will take place on 22 November in London.
