Partnership aims to advance apparel worker rights
Multi-stakeholder initiative Fair Wear, which works to improve garment workers’ rights and working conditions, has announced a strategic partnership with the European Outdoor Group (EOG), which promotes the European outdoor industry.
The partners have said their aim is to create positive, long-term change for workers across the outdoor apparel supply chain.
They will focus on bringing an initiative called HRDD Academy, which Netherlands-based Fair Wear launched recently, to EOG’s more-than 140 members. HRDD stands for human rights due diligence. The initiative seeks to empower outdoor brands “to transform the industry through impactful and practical implementation of human rights due diligence”.
Learning available through the HRDD Academy includes tools and expert guidance to help clothing brands “drive meaningful change” and prepare for changes in legislation.
In the course of the next year, the two organisations will hold in-person and digital events to help the outdoor apparel industry play “a leading role in advancing workers’ rights”.
