Polartec-owner Milliken & Company has announced an investment and partnership with chitosan specialist Tidal Vision. The company headquartered in Bellingham, Washington, has developed chitosan-based solutions for a variety of industries including water treatment, agriculture and textiles.

Chitosan is derived from chitin, a natural polymer that forms the exoskeleton of insects, crustaceans and many fungi. In textiles, chitosan is used as a sizing agent, dye mordant, antimicrobial finish and as a possible alternative to PFAS/PFOS.

For Cindy Boiter, who heads Milliken’s Chemical Business, the partnership was a “natural fit” for Tidal Vision’s “innovative approach to sustainable materials”. Halsey Cook, president and CEO, commented: “we invest with a long-term perspective, prioritising partnerships that will drive meaningful growth”.

A private company, Tidal Vision has raised close to $100 million since it was founded in 2015.
