AAFA appeals for more labour rights in Bangladesh and Taiwan

In Taiwan, AFFA said it will work with suppliers so no worker pays for their job; all workers retain control of their travel documents and have full freedom of movement; and all workers are informed of the basic terms of their employment before leaving their country of origin.
The initiative unites more than 50 companies sourcing from Taiwan and their Taiwan-based suppliers, with the support of AAFA, FLA, and the Taiwan Textile Federation.
The two US associations also travelled to Bangladesh as part of a delegation consisting of representatives from Columbia Sportswear Company, KMD Brands and VF Corporation.
Shelly Han, executive vice-president at the Fair Labor Association, said: “The ready-made garment sector in Bangladesh has a unique opportunity to address the long-standing issues that impact workers’ livelihoods, such as the wage-setting process and reforms to the labour law.”
It also follows a join letter from September 2024 that advocates for the immediate release of garment workers who remain under arrest, swiftly implement a transparent and regular annual minimum wage review mechanism, and restart tripartite discussions on the Bangladesh Labor Act to bring the law into line with international labour standards.
