Zero-carbon footprint PA6 in new Vaude backpack
Outdoor brand Vaude has used a polyamide 6 with a product carbon footprint of zero in a new backback.
It said the new Trailcontrol Zero 20+ backpack for cyclists is constructed with Ultramid Zero PCF fibres from BASF.
In its production of Ultramid Zero PCF, BASF uses renewable electricity and biomethane and bio-based feedstock from used cooking oil instead of fossil raw materials.
Its methodology for producing this version of PA6 follows a certified mass-balance approach. BASF insists it has the same properties as conventional PA6, but “outperforms it in terms of sustainability”.
Senior material innovation manager at Vaude, René Bethmann, commented: “With this flagship project, we want to stimulate discussions about how materials can contribute to climate neutrality.”
