Recover and TextileGenesis lay groundwork for trackable fibres

Spain-headquartered recycled cotton supplier Recover and TextileGenesis have published a ‘white paper’ to explain more about a pilot programme that seeks to track recycled fibres through the supply chain.

The platform generates digital tokens, or Fibercoins, for every kilo of recycled cotton and polycotton, establishing a chain of custody.

It aims to address the rising demand for recycled materials, growing risk of fibre fraud, and the need to prepare for regulations like the EU Digital Product Passport, said the partners.

It also anticipates EU legislation such as the ESPR (Ecodesign Sustainable Products Regulation), WFD (Waste Framework Directive), and TLR (Textile Labelling Regulation), which aim to define mandatory recycled content thresholds.

Amit Gautam, CEO of TextileGenesis, said: “Recover is demonstrating how traceability can be embedded into circular business models, not just to validate recycled content, but to create the verified data infrastructure needed for regulatory compliance and brand accountability. This sets the foundation for scalable, digital traceability across the recycled fibre ecosystem.”

Following the pilot, the companies aim to implement full fibre-to-retail traceability across the supply chain.

Recover operates facilities in Spain, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and is aiming to open further sites in Mexico, Central America, Brazil, India, Turkey and Indonesia.
