Government recognition for Oritain co-founder
Co-founder of textile traceability technology provider Oritain, Professor Russell Frew, has received a prime-ministerial appointment.
New Zealand’s prime minister, Christopher Luxon, has asked Professor Frew to sit on the country’s science, innovation and technology advisory council.
He will become part of a team of scientists that will advise the government on how to leverage science and technology to drive economic growth and improve the lives of New Zealanders.
Oritain said Professor Frew’s appointment to the advisory council was recognition for the scientific leadership that has helped it develop its solutions.
Its technology combines forensic science and statistics to detect naturally occurring elements in fibres, including wool and cotton. Soil composition and other environmental factors give the fibre an inherent ‘fingerprint’ specific to each location. Oritain calls this the ‘origin fingerprint’.
