Pyrolysis trial on textile waste at Loom Carbon

17/12/2025
Loom Carbon, a start-up based in Singapore, has announced a partnership with US-based research institute RTI to help scale the young company’s thermal chemical recycling platform. The technology is said to be suited to blended textile waste, removing pigments and unwanted chemicals, including PFAS. The pyrolysis process yields heat, or energy, carbon black and oil. The oil includes a possible polyester precursor which would then close the textile loop, the company noted.

Over the next 12 months, the two partners will be focusing on scaling up Loom’s system, validating product quality and preparing for commercial deployment.

Last September, the Singapore Fashion Council (SFC) invested US$300,000 in the company founded in 2025. Its first commercial plant is expected to be located in Singapore and could have a capacity to process 20,000 tonnes of textile waste annually.
