Calls for a board shake-up before Lululemon appoints new CEO
The founder of yoga and gymwear brand Lululemon, Chip Wilson, has nominated the former chief executive of footwear brand On, Marc Maurer, for a place on Lululemon’s board.
Mr Wilson launched Lululemon in 1998 but stepped down as chairman of the company in 2013. However, he remains its second-largest shareholder.
In recent months, he has been vocally critical in public of the running of the company. This led to an announcement at the end of 2025 that Calvin McDonald is to step down as chief executive in January.
Hiring a new chief executive is a priority for Lululemon, but Chip Wilson told the Wall Street Journal in the final days of 2025 that shareholders will have little faith in any chief executive appointed by the current board. He said this was why he was moving to try to change the make-up of the board first.
Alongside Marc Maurer, Mr Wilson has nominated two candidates from the media arena, Laura Gentile from ESPN and Eric Hirshberg from Activision, to become members of the Lululemon board.
