Technological breakthrough in snap buttons, YKK claims

Fastening solutions developer YKK has launched a product that it claims will set a new standard for snap buttons.

It described the new product, the Low-profiled Lightweight Snap, as having “an ultra-slim underpart design”, incorporating a plastic spring to keep the visible top part fastened.

In comparison to traditional ring-spring snaps, YKK said its new design offers a reduction of 16% in thickness and of 14% in weight to give “a flat, minimalistic appearance” that will enhance garment design.

It said the development will be of particular interest to activewear brands, “for whom thinness and lightness are essential”.

The company’s senior vice-president for its snap and buttons division, Yuji Kitahara, said the Low-profiled Lightweight Snap was “a technological breakthrough” and a first step towards “evolving the standard” for these products.
