Mongolia’s textiles makers seek technology boost from Italy
Italy’s expertise in cashmere and wool processing is being harnessed in Mongolia and has led to a growing demand for advanced machinery, according to Italian textile machinery association ACIMIT.
The biggest demand is for spinning machines, it said, accounting for 35% of the sector’s exports to the country, followed by laundry machinery (21%), accessories (19%), finishing equipment (14%) and weaving machinery (11%).
Marco Salvadè, president of ACIMIT, said: “Mongolia represents a highly promising market for our industry,” adding that a seminar in Ulaanbaatar this week is only the beginning of a series, gearing up to the next ITMA machinery fair in 2027.
ACIMIT represents 200 textile machinery manufacturers, with a joint turnover of €1.9 billion. Around 85% of its production is exported, to 130 countries.
