Bally Ribbon Mills streamlines e-textile integration
Webbing maker Bally Ribbon Mills’ E-Webbings are embedded with electronic components to streamline the integration of sensors or smart elements into clothing. These e-textiles can be customised to address different smart textile applications, said the company based in Bally, Pennsylvania.
E-Webbings combine non-conductive fibres with conductive elements to create a narrow woven fabric that can be used to capture and transmit data or host embedded electronics to deliver light, vibrations, heat, or power. They can function as elements of crew safety systems, wearable biometric sensors, material shielding, or healthcare monitoring.
The company said that sensor integration is flexible, with placement and function tailored to what the textile needs to measure and how it will interact within the product. The woven webbing base is believed to offer improved attachment and integration options compared to other types of textiles.
BRM’s E-Webbings have already been tested for aerospace and defence applications, and have been used as stress and strain sensors in NASA’s Artemis program. The company plans to expand into new smart textile segments, such as IoT-enabled consumer wearables, medical monitoring garments and industrial safety gear.
