Swiss compression apparel brand Skins has announced that its products are being used by Missouri-based ice hockey team the St. Louis Blues to help with the team’s run through the National Hockey League playoffs.

Skins opened its North American regional headquarters in Portland last summer, where it shares a Pearl District office and management team with Italian swimwear brand Arena. The brand specialises in technical compression material designed to reduce fatigue and help recovery for athletes.

While popular among triathletes, the company said that as of last month the entire Blues roster had been fitted with Skins RY 400 compression equipment to help during the arduous post-season competition. The Blues play the San Jose Sharks Monday night in game three of a first-round Western Conference playoffs series. The series is tied at a game a piece.

“Skins provides a valuable asset to our players and helps them perform at their peak as the regular season intensifies and transitions into the post season,” Mike Hannegan, the Blues' assistant athletic trainer, said in a news release.
