Harrods breakthrough for shapewear brand

Italian shapewear brand My Shapes has secured a distribution deal at iconic department store Harrods. The London-based store will start selling My Shapes products including Top Shaper, leggings and panties in its pharmacy department from October 1.

My Shapes has constructed the collection using Rhodia’s Emana fibre endowed with far infrared ray (FIR) technology. Rhodia has claimed that clothing made from Emana can reduce signs of cellulite, make the waist, hips, thighs and buttocks smaller and make the skin look younger by increasing the amount of collagen it produces and increasing its elasticity.

My Shapes has quoted impressive double-digit percentage improvements for some of these benefits, for example an 11% reduction in the signs of cellulite. The brand has told sportstextiles.com that these figures come from an independent study into the benefits of clothing made from Emana that Rhodia commissioned in Brazil. It’s not clear how much these figures influenced Harrods’ decision to stock the My Shapes range, but we understand that the sample that took part in the study, around 40 women, was very small.

Emana is a polyamide 6.6 yarn with bioactive mineral crystals in its polymer matrix. Chemical company Rhodia and Italian yarn producer Fulgar announced a joint agreement at the end of last year to produce and market the fibre in Europe. It is the result of four years of development in Rhodia’s research centres.

The My Shapes leggings are 93% Emana and 7% elastane, the panties are a 90-10 or 92-8 mix of the same fibres (depending on the style) and the Top Shaper is 92% Emana and 8% elastane.
