New Zealand outdoor brand Icebreaker has appointed its first vice-president of retail to build its network of retail stores, called TouchLabs.

Cathy Quain will be based in Icebreaker’s US headquarters in Portland, Oregon, and will initially focus on the US.

“As we approach our 18th anniversary, we are committed to an aggressive global growth strategy on all fronts,” said Icebreaker CEO Jeremy Moon. “Cathy is the perfect person to help us take our mission of spreading the goodness of merino to the world to the next level.”

Ms Quain was recently vice-president of marketing, retail and ecommerce at California fashion brand Trina Turk. Prior to that, she was vice-president of direct-to-consumer at Burton Snowboards and spent seven years at Giorgio Armani, where she worked in licensing and multi-store management for retail.

Ms Quain said: “I see enormous potential for the growth of the business in all channels. Its TouchLabs give Icebreaker a great opportunity to bring its unique brand story to life and provide a tangible retail experience to enhance what is already an amazing product experience.”

Launched in 1994, Icebreaker developed a merino layering system and sources directly from growers. It is sold in 3,000 stores in 43 countries.
