Icebreaker promotes the Running of the Sheep
New Zealand-based merino wool brand Icebreaker is promoting this weekend’s Sheep Shearing Championships, which will attract thousands of visitors to the rural town of Te Kuiti.

It says the “sheep shearing capital of the world” will be blocking off the main street for the running of over 2,000 sheep in celebration of the competition.

The championships will feature over 200 shearers and woolhandlers and about 3,500 sheep – the winner will walk away with A$20,000.

In 2009, a large number sheep broke through the barriers and ran amok, knocking a spectator unconscious.
