Dyneema fibres to appear in Levi’s 501 jeans
Netherlands-based DSM, which produces ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) branded as Dyneema, has joined forces with Levi’s 501 jeans.
Marketed as the world’s strongest fibre, Dyneema can now be found in the jeanswear firm’s Warrior and Trooper styles as well as in protective wear for law enforcement officers, cyclists and manual workers.
According to DSM, the addition of this fibre improves abrasion resistance and strength by 25% compared with traditional jeans of the same weight, helping them to last longer. Despite the added durability, the jeans are said to offer softness, suppleness and excellent fit.
“The reputation of the Dyneema brand has been forged in some of the toughest environments,” says DSM Dyneema president Gerard de Reuver.
“We’re proud to be able to transfer the inherent properties of the fibre into a whole new range of consumer goods by collaborating with our customers.”
